Ahhhh, the soothing Chinese flute, the dizi. I’ve always loved how beautiful this instrument is. It’s beauty isn’t limited to just its sound but also how aesthetically pleasing it is to the eyes. From its sleek, glossy body down to the strips that adorn and what about those that have character carvings on the body; be it poetry or proverbs. Simply breath-taking!
This is an instrument that many common Chinese people pick up because it’s so conveniently portable and back in the day it was easy to make. Not to mention it boasts a history so ancient it spans as far back as 7000BC to 5000BC and with bone versions of the dizi from that period as proof. On top of all that, it can be a conversation starter like the pipa. Just maybe not as refined. So go on, pick it up and play then hit them with these bits of dizi trivia. You’ll have them eating out of your hand.
Oh. You don’t know how to play the dizi? Don’t worry. Our instructors do and they’d love to share their skills with you. Just call 65332800 to book a trial class today or drop by and sign upon the spot!
