Chinese ethnic groups never cease to amaze and once again they amaze with the hulusi (Cucurbit flute) that is native to Yunnan. In truth, I had never heard of its existence, let alone seen one until a very recent experience but once I heard it I knew it straight away. It was that very dependable sounding flute that I would hear in passing when a shop might play some Chinese classical tunes on the radio. In my then very unknowledgeable mind, I just shrugged it off as the dizi but little did I know I was very wrong!
This is an instrument that deserves a wider fan base and if you’re the kind of person that appreciates all things ethnic and the idea of playing an organic instrument appeals to you, I say it’s time to give us a call at 65332800 and book your trial lesson or visit the studio and book from there.
